Crystal turquoise waters. Pristine white sand. Caribbean sea breeze. Hideaway. Unlocked Treasure. Utopian Escape. Tranquility. Serenity. Anguilla!
Some have heard about Anguilla and quite a few have enjoyed her many unspoiled pleasures and delights. She has been the playground for business travelers, honeymooners, socialites, nature lovers and celebrities alike. But for me, she is called home.
The truth is, I never imagined that Anguilla would have become my latest home. My family roots lie here on these 35 square lean miles. I even attended two years of school at the, one and the only, local high school. But it wasn’t until a few years back, did I truly begin to recognize the gem, my parents so belovedly called “Anguilla”.
Thoughts of a life on this beautiful small island filled my head. The idea of no traffic intrigued me. The untouched greenery seemed to beckon me. Her blue waters engulfed me with a calming sensation like I had never experienced. And her cool breezes whispered my name and said “Come to Anguilla. Live. Love. Laugh. Anguilla”
So I began working on the legalities. Like figuring out how to get my “belonger status”. Because by all accounts, the locals would say, “I from right here”. But saying and proving it on paper are two different things. It was a process and took some time but I got it. I became a legally certified belonger of Anguilla. Yay, me!
Then the one thing, I vowed I would never do, happened.
The unthinkable. The unfathomable.
With a population so small, and I swear, half of us are related somehow, this was the furthest thing from my mind.
But, there it was, it happened………… I fell in love with and married an Anguilla man.
So, I did it. Packed my bags and moved to Anguilla to start a new adventure with my new hubby. Perhaps, it may seem strange to you that someone with roots in Anguilla, who attended school in Anguilla, and has spent countless summers in Anguilla, would say new adventure. But, oh, believe me it is!
For the first time, in my life, I plan to explore all the hidden jewels of Anguilla. My hubby, being a local professional cyclist that has ridden his bike through every part of the island, has promised to give me the grand tour.
Here in this blog we will share our experiences as newlyweds re-discovering and re- living Anguilla. So join us as we embark on an unforgettable journey of our love for Anguilla and our love for one another. I dream of Anguilla. Don’t you?
